Many Texas prospects are enjoying picking up their first offers this spring, but 2019 Dallas, Texas, safety Brian Williams already had a nice collection by the end of last season.

Now, after having taken some visits and scheduling others for the near future, Williams is starting to settle in with a few teams that have been most active in his recruitment as of late.

Although Notre Dame is his most recent offer, the Irish have some interesting connections to Williams that other teams don’t. How much those connections could factor into things remains to be seen, but the Irish staff will no doubt take all the help it can get.

“It’s definitely a big deal,” he said of Notre Dame’s offer. “They have a big tradition at Bishop Dunne with most of our teachers actually graduating from there - and Nick Watkins being up there - so it meant a lot just from the academic standpoint as well as athletics.”

Watkins was a 2014 four-star commitment to Notre Dame from Bishop Dunne. Williams said that he hasn’t had direct contact with Watkins about Notre Dame, but his brother is one of Williams’ coaches.

“You know he left right around the time that I came there,” he said. “His brother actually coaches me, so I have a great relationship with him, but I don’t really feel like there is any peer pressure - I know that I’m just going to make the best decision for me when it’s all said and done.”

Williams said that Nebraska, Oklahoma, and TCU have made up the rest of the group of schools that have been significant involved with him over the last several weeks.

IN HIS WORDS

On Nebraska, who will host Williams at the Huskers’ spring game

“Nebraska has one of the best fan bases in the country,” he said. “Damion Daniels committed there, so I’m definitely looking forward to that one. Damion just said that he’s enjoyed every minute of it, he said the fans are great and he shouted me out on twitter and I think I gained 100 followers just on that.”

On Oklahoma, where he visited at the end of January

“Definitely Oklahoma has stood out for me - I have been able to call them up a few times recently,” he said. “It was great; what stood out was checking out what they’re doing with the new facilities and Coach (Bob) Stoops and Coach (Kerry) Cooks definitely made me feel at home.”

On TCU, where Williams visited following Oklahoma

“Coach (Gary) Patterson is a great coach,” he said. “Coach (Curtis) Luper is the one that’s recruiting me and he’s a great person. I’ve definitely enjoyed talking to them or being around.”

“Besides recently, the last time I was there was for their game against Arkansas because my brother [Rawleigh Williams] plays (for the Razorbacks),” he said. “That was a great game, a great atmosphere up there and it’s very close.”

RIVALS REACTION

With Williams’ brother playing at Arkansas, the natural inclination is to expect the Razorbacks to have an advantage. After 2017 four-star teammate Chevin Calloway also signed with Arkansas, that gives the Razorbacks another voice to put in Williams’ ear.

All of the other programs mentioned by Williams are competitive recruiters, however, and Williams is still focused on building relationships with all the programs working on him.
