COLLEGE STATION, Tex. -- Erick Young may not have grabbed quite as many headlines as fellow 2019 teammate Jamal Morris, but he’s well on his way to being a top recruit in his own right.

After heading into the summer with offers from Baylor, Colorado and Iowa State, Young turned in solid performances recently at the Texas 7-on-7 Championships presented by adidas and last weekend’s Mike Vick V7 Playmakers Showcase in Houston. Young picked up his offer from the Buffaloes at a satellite camp held at Houston Baptist University, and said that experience gave him something to build on heading into his junior season.

“I feel real good,” he said. “I picked up a couple of offers in the spring; (Colorado) saw me at my spring game, but they came to that camp and offered me a couple days after. I like them but I have to look into them more, I haven’t really had the chance to do that yet.”

Baylor has been one of the teams making a play for Young and Morris early on, and the two of them visited the campus earlier in the spring. Although the relationship is still developing, Young said that a positive foundation has been laid with the Bears’ new staff.

“I like Coach Francis (Brown), he’s a real good coach,” he said. “I was impressed with the scene out there. It was a family environment and they really look after the players. I like that if you get hurt, they still let you keep your scholarship.”

Next up for Young and Morris is a visit to TCU later this month. Both have said that Horned Frogs’ running backs coach Curtis Luper has made them a priority and has invited them to come have a look at things.

Young’s Bush side made a nice run in the state 7-on-7 tournament and a big part of that had to do with his and Morris’ work patrolling the secondary. He’s a big and very athletic player that looks like he could line up comfortably anywhere in the secondary, but showed how natural of a football player he is in general by dominating reps as a receiver at the V7 Showcase.
