2019 Auburn offer fishing for more at upcoming camps

Jalen Curry is going to think he’s got this recruiting thing all figured out in no time.

The 2019 Stafford, Texas, wide receiver has already kicked off his recruitment with an offer from Auburn. The offer was his first and came while on an unofficial visit last month.

Curry just heading into his sophomore season, but already is filling out at 6-2 and 180 pounds. Even though his high school didn’t fare too well in the Texas State 7v7 Tournament, he was one of the more dominant receivers later that weekend at the Prime 21 event in Dallas.

IN HIS WORDS

On his reaction to receiving the offer

“I was very excited,” he said. “I kind of expected it, but yeah, it shocked me when I first got it and I was just happy to get my first offer as a freshman.”

On his impression of the football team

“They’re a very good program, a traditional program,” he said. “I think they have a great coaching staff. Coach (Gus) Malzahn is a great coach and they’re fanbase is crazy.”

How he pictures himself in Auburn’s offense

“I envision myself as being the next Sammie Coates,” he said. “Duke Williams is another guy of the type of player I think I could be like out there.”

RIVALS REACTION

If things go as swimmingly in the coming weeks as they did with Auburn, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see a few more names jump in the early race. He will be camping at TCU this weekend, Houston on the 22nd and will be at Texas A&M on July 27. Curry is already a prospect with desirable size and speed and is a reliable pass-catcher.

Like many in-state prospects, he’s also keeping an eye on Texas. Curry said the Longhorns would be his pick as the offer of his choice at the moment.

“(Texas) is a school I’d like an offer from,” he said. “Vince Young, Jordan Shipley, Limas Sweed and all them were guys I watched.”
