2019 4-Star WR Kam Brown still strong with UCLA commitment

FORT WORTH, Tex. -- 2019 Rivals250 wide receiver Kam Brown has been committed to UCLA since this past spring, but he probably had higher hopes for the team’s performance this fall.

Despite another turbulent year on the field, Brown is staying optimistic about the Bruins' future and seemingly has yet to seriously reconsider his decision.

“Things have been a little rough this season,” he said. “I’m still with them right now, I still have faith in them. They have a couple of things to clean up, but I think that you have to give them some time and I think they can turn things around.”

Brown said that the staff has kept him a priority in its recruiting efforts this season, but he hasn’t had been able to make it out for a game this season. Understandably so, as he’s led his Colleyville Heritage team in touchdown receptions with 15, and is just behind fellow four-star receiver Ke’Von Ahmad for the team lead in receiving yards with 869.

“We still have a great relationship, we talk every day,” he said. “I still text with Coach (Jim) Mora, Coach (Jimmie) Dougherty … I haven’t had the chance to make it out there this season. I’m trying to, but it’s hard because we’re getting ready to go into the playoffs and everything.”

Still, Brown has seen flashes of the offense that many were expecting to be talking about all season as one of the nation’s best with Josh Rosen back under center. Even though he’s missed some time again this year, there have still been moments that have shown the potential he's expected.

“When they’re throwing the ball around, it’s beautiful,” he said. “You can’t stop them. The defense has to play a little better and get some stops, but the offense could play a little better when they need them.”

Brown said that Arizona State, Ole Miss, Texas and Texas A&M have made him a focus in their 2019 recruiting efforts this season, but that things are still in the preliminary stages with each. While making the trip out to California requires more time and planning, he’s been able to zip down to College Station for an unofficial visit, and watched the Aggies host Mississippi State at the end of October.

“It was good,” he said. “They had a lot of young guys playing, just learning and getting some experience, but I think they’ll be OK.”

RIVALS REACTION

This season has led to more speculation about uncertainty going forward for Mora and the Bruins current staff. While Brown did make an appearance at Texas A&M for an unofficial, he said that Ole Miss has been the most proactive among other teams urging him to flip. For now, the Rebels - and anyone else vying for his final commitment - have a long road ahead, as he’s still far more involved with the Bruins than anyone else.

“I haven’t really let anything get that far yet,” he said. “I’ve just been talking to some of those schools and forming a relationship with all those coaches.”
