DALLAS, Tex. -- After watching a few of his peers in the 2019 class already make and undo commitments this spring, four-star wide receiver Jalen Curry is taking a less aggressive attitude towards his recruitment.

That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t plan on taking some visits to some of the out-of-state schools that have been among his early offers. Now that he has a little bit of a reprieve before his junior season gets under way, Curry hopes to make a swing through the southeast with a few other key stops along the way.

“Spring has been very good to me - I feel like I have been getting better through it,” he said. “Recruiting-wise I am just being patient. I’m supposed to take visits next month, really and see how schools get down with it.”

So far as his in-state offers are concerned, signs continue to point to Texas A&M being his most familiar and likely option. He’s hoping he’ll have an opportunity to take advantage of his time around College Station next weekend while at the state 7-on-7 tournament to make another visit.

“My brother Grant (Gunnell), he just committed there a little while ago,” he said. “He’s been on me about A&M and I still have a good relationship with the coaches. They’ve been recruiting me for a while. Next week I’ll be there for the state 7-on-7 tournament, so I’ll be around for that."

IN HIS WORDS

On Auburn, where he will visit along with Alabama

“It was around this time last year that I had visited out there and Auburn gave me my first offer,” he said. “So I still have a good relationship there and I still like them. I definitely feel things have moved forward with them, but they’ll always be up there because they were my first offer.”

On Florida State

“I have a great relationship with that coaching staff,” he said. “I talk with Coach Jimbo Fisher a lot and we have a great relationship. When we get to July they can’t wait for me to come so we can just enjoy and spend some time together.”

On Nebraska

“The coaches are what stands out there,” he said. “They try to build relationships with all of their players and I have a really strong relationship with Coach (Keith) Williams. He’s a very good coach and I could see myself playing for him one day.”

RIVALS REACTION

Curry sounded less sure that he was going to be able to make it out to Lincoln, and also said that he would like to see Arkansas, Miami, and Ohio State if possible this summer. His laid-back approach to making any hard decisions was supported with him guessing that he’s not thinking himself ready to make a commitment until after his junior year at this point, but he’s a big and talented receiver that most any coaching staff would like to have added to its class.
