2019 4-Star Jordan Whittington tightening his focus

DALLAS, Tex. -- 2019 Cuero, Texas, athlete Jordan Whittington released his Top 8 earlier this month, but said that he’s gearing up to cut that in half before the start of the season.

Two of the teams looking good to make that cut include Texas and Texas A&M. Having those two teams going head-to-head in his recruitment is fun, but that means that his teammates on Fast Houston - many of whom are committed to or considering the two - haven’t been shy about advising him on who he should pick.

“There’s been a lot of arguing about who is better,” he said. “They’re all trying to get everyone else that’s not committed to their school.”

Whittington has the build and athleticism to play on either side of the ball, and has offers for each. He said that he’s most interested in playing offense in college, but in the meantime, is still figuring out what the best for him truly is.

“The main thing is staying humble and staying healthy,” he said. “I’m kind of cutting my list down, so I’m just doing that and that’s the main thing.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Texas

“I’ve been there four times since he’s been there, so we’re building a relationship,” he said. “Right now, their tradition and their swagger are really something that stands out to me. They like me at safety, but I would like to see them offer me at receiver because that’s what I want to play in college.”

On Texas A&M, and Grant Gunnell singling him out as a major target

“Things were good before he got there,” he said. “But now that he’s there, it puts them way higher in my interest. I’ve been there so many times that I know everything about A&M, so the main thing is just to keep rebuilding relationships.”

On UCLA, where he was on campus last month

“The campus is the best one that I’ve been to,” he said. “My mom’s side of the family is out there … like everyone else, they just need to find something to offer me that nobody else can offer. But obviously I’d like to have my family at every game.”

RIVALS REACTION

Whittington said that the Aggies have said they envision him stepping into the Christian Kirk role in their offense, which has to be an appealing sales pitch with his desire to play receiver in college. He also pointed out Florida as another school of particular interest, but is a player that should expect to be showcased in whatever position he takes on the field.
