One of the names to keep a close eye on in Texas coming out of the spring is 2018 Houston-area prospect Josh Landry.
The defensive lineman already has a handful of offers from the teams including Iowa State, Nebraska and Texas Tech, but he said a few more in-state teams have been giving him a harder look as of late - namely Texas and Texas A&M.
Landry has plans to dig into things a little bit more with both programs in the coming weeks and said he’s more familiar with the Longhorns, but can’t deny the appeal of being closer to Aggie country.
“I watched Texas more growing up but when it comes down to it, I like them both,” he said.
While there it seems things will pick up with both more earnestly in the near future, he said that he feels Texas may be the closest to sending an offer his way.
“The coaches there have told me they really like my film - he actually told me my offer should be coming soon,” he said. “They were recruiting me [at Houston] when they were there, and I’ve been watching them since he’s been there and I like Coach (Tom) Herman, him and Coach (Oscar) Giles.”
The situation with the Aggies’ staff isn’t much different, and with Landry and some of his teammates set to make the rounds at upcoming prospect camps, he feels as though he’ll have a clearer idea on where he stands with them soon.
“They just stopped by, told me the same thing - that they liked my film,” he said. “Honestly I don’t know much about them, but I’m looking forward to getting the chance to find out more about them. I just like what I see from the defensive linemen coming off the ball aggressive; that’s how I am - aggressive.”
Part of Landry’s spring tour tentatively includes Oklahoma, where he hopes to visit at the end of January, and TCU, where he’s set to make an appearance on the first weekend of February.
“I haven’t talked to (Oklahoma) that much lately, but they told me the same thing - they love my film,” he said. “With TCU, honestly I haven’t looked into them that much, that’s why I want to take that trip out there.”
