2018 safety Trent Gordon wasn’t among those at the NPA Exposure Camp at Episcopal High School in Houston, Texas, that exactly needed the added attention - but that didn’t stop him from getting it.

Prior to the camp he said he’s still looking to pick up more offers this spring, and after last weekend, Iowa State, Louisville, Michigan and Penn State all came calling. Even before that, he was already doing pretty well for himself.

Gordon’s stock has skyrocketed after the end of last season, as he quickly gathered Big 12 and SEC offers - even one from Cal, where he’s already been on an unofficial visit. While the hard-hitting jet setting defensive back is still taking calls, he still has an affinity for the team that came through with his first offer.

“The offer I got most excited about was my first one from LSU,” he said. “That was one of my dream schools.”

Not far behind is conference rival, Texas A&M, who already has been able to make good on a geographical advantage when it comes to making an impression on Gordon.

“That atmosphere is something else,” he said. “I’ve been to their games and those stands and fans, they’re wild.”

IN HIS WORDS

More on LSU

“I have been talking with Coach (Corey) Raymond a lot, that’s the person I’ve really been keeping in contact with,” he said. “He wants me to know that if I come to LSU, I can get my DB skills and everything right. He puts DB’s in the NFL and that’s one of the goals I want to accomplish in life, so he said that he has that prepared and everything for me.”

More on Texas A&M

“I was able to tell [former defensive backs coach] (Terry) Joseph that hey, if he’s in the area, we can just talk or whatever,” he said. “I’ve talked to Coach (John) Chavis one time. He’s really straight-forward, gets to the point and he’s a really cool guy.”

On Ole Miss

“It’s still good out there,” he said. “I know people on the team and the program is still going to be really good even with the change (at defensive coordinator). Right now, my best friend on the team is Deontay Anderson and he tells me to just keep my head up, keep talking to the coaches and keep trying to get affiliated with the team and that’s how you’re going to get in there.”

RIVALS REACTION

There is still a long way to go when it comes to Gordon, who is almost picking up offers faster than he can keep up with the coaches that are giving them to him. Several Manvel teammates and Houston-area prospects have intentions of hitting the junior day circuit hard this spring, and he’ll have the chance to join them and better familiarize himself with all the new faces.

Gordon is a hard-nosed defensive back with strong ball-skills and a laser focus when it comes to stepping up and making a big hit. Playing alongside 2017 Texas A&M safety commit and Rivals250 prospect Derrick Tucker has given him a little bit of an assist, but he’s in a spot to shine all on his own next season.
