ATLANTA -- Anthony Cook is all healed up following a scary collision that left him with a small hairline fracture under his eye in a recent 7-on-7 tournament, but had a strong start to his day at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour.
Just within the last two weeks, Cook has collected offers from USC, Florida, Utah, Florida State and Texas. Until those schools have the chance to get more involved in his recruitment, it’s other in-state schools that still have the early edge with the talented 2018 cornerback.
For now, Georgia has been the out-of-state team in most frequent contact with him, and he has plans to venture out to Athens for a camp visit in late July.
In his words
Baylor: “I have a good relationship with Coach (Cris) Dishman. It’s sad to hear what happened out there, but it’s important to me to have a good relationship with my DB coach,” he said. “I feel like when choosing a school, if I wasn’t comfortable with the coach then I wouldn’t go there.
“I have been talking to Coach Dishman and he said that he’s there to stay,” he said “He said that the stuff going on out there didn’t have anything to do with him and I’ll take his word for it.
“Last time I was out there was during the spring before things went down,” he said. “I will probably get back out there sometime this summer though because I’m always in Waco, I’m from there originally so I have some family out there.”
TCU: “I’m always out in the Dallas area as well because I have a trainer out there that I work with,” he said. “They don’t talk about what’s going on at Baylor, they just tell me to come out and visit whenever I’m out there.”
“I was at TCU’s camp in Pearland on Thursday,” he said. “It was cool, I got to talk to the coaches out there and before that I hadn’t really talked to Coach (Gary Patterson), and I like him; he’s a good man, so it was cool to be out there.”
Georgia: “Georgia has some dogs out there,” he said. “I really just want to learn more about them that’s why I wanna go out there to visit -- really just get a feel for the coaches and stuff like that. They said that if I want to come to a camp I can do that and I probably will just so I can show them what I can do.”

Rivals’ Reaction: Cook is one of the top cornerbacks in the 2018 class. He still has some areas that he needs to improve, but the canvas is clearly there to work with. Teams have taken notice of his physical tools and matching play. His patience with Baylor despite the program’s recent issues could change very quickly should further details jeopardize his relationship to the staff, but he has plenty of other options, regardless. He’s a versatile player that can work at a number of secondary positions and by the end of his senior season, he has the look of a guy that is plug-and-play in any defense.
