2018 4-Star RB Kirby Bennett ready for LSU visit

Last Friday, when Allen (Texas) hosted Denton-Guyer, two underclassmen running backs taking close looks at LSU squared off.

Guyer’s Noah Cain - a highly recruited 2019 prospect - was offered just last week by the Tigers. On the other side was 2018 four-star Kirby Bennett, has yet to receive a LSU offer, but is planning on being in Baton Rouge for the Tigers’ next game against Ole Miss.

Bennett had a marginally better game where yards were hard to come by for both, but it wasn’t without sacrifice; a hit midway through the game took a pretty good chip out of his right front tooth. Bennett didn’t go down, in fact, he took the time to re-adjust his helmet as he tried to power forward for a few more yards immediately after.

It’s that sort of toughness that has become a hallmark of LSU running backs and a trait that has caught the eye of offensive line coach and running game coordinator, Jeff Grimes.

“(Grimes) said that nothing’s changed out there,” he said. “They’re just going to keep doing what they’re doing, winning games, and I talk to him every week. I talked to him before this game and he told me good luck. He’s showing that he cares and that means a lot.”

Bennett already has 10 offers from teams like Colorado, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and UCLA. Despite the coaching turnover this season for the Tigers, he has still been looking to add one from LSU as well.

“I think they’re still in a great position,” he said. “Les Miles is still a great coach - he was legendary for that program and did great things there. I’m not going to change my perception and choose my college off of a coach because he could leave at any second, so I think they’ll still have a good run with me.”

Though it seems his opinion of LSU isn’t affected much by a changing of the guard at head coach, it also looks like keeping much of the staff together this season has been beneficial. That, in conjunction with success of the program during Miles’ tenure on all fronts has kept the Tigers high upon his wish list.

“I like the stadium, the people, the players they put out,” he said. “Especially running backs. The running backs coach is a cool guy, the offensive coordinator, everything is a great feel out there right now.”
