"That was the first school to start looking at me heavily, and I just wanted to go out there and ball out," Hamler said. "I guess I did and I guess they saw enough talent in me that they could give me an offer."
Although it is very early in his recruitment, Hamler has Michigan State out front as the team to beat.
"They are at the top of my list right now," Hamler said. "I'd like to still work hard, still get offers, but I am not going to commit now. There is still a lot of time."
Hamler's first offer actually came in from Toledo earlier last month. He is also hearing from Notre Dame, Illinois, Iowa and Michigan and has plans to camp with more schools in July.
"I really like Florida State. I think I am going to camp down there on the 18th," Hamler said. "After that I might go down to Alabama."
At just 5-foot-8 and 145 pounds now, Hamler understands he gets dismissed out-of-hand by a lot of
"I play with a chip on my shoulder every day," he said. "I love when they take me as an underdog. I have been through that my whole life and I'm pretty used to that."
