2017 LB already on South Carolinas radar
He's only a freshman but already Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Carolina Forest linebacker Trenton Guthrie is picking up interest from in the in-state Gamecocks. The 6-foot-2, 172-pounder camped in Columbia over the summer and took his first unofficial visit to campus for a game last month.
"I went to a visit for the Coastal Carolina game and got a chance to meet with some of the coaches and talk to them," Guthrie said. "I talked with Coach [Kirk] Botkin and he remembered me from camp and we talked about how big and how fast I need to be in order for me to play in the SEC."

Guthrie said now that he's on the Gamecocks radar he's eager to get to work and earn more interest in the future.
"He said I should be running a 4.6-4.7 40 by the time I'm a senior," Guthrie said. "And I should be about 210 pounds. I'm working on both of those things this offseason and I think I can get there as I continue to grow."
As far as the game day experience, Guthrie said it was exciting to be on campus as a recruit for the first time.
"I thought it was a great experience," he said. "For a game against a team that's not really a big draw they still had a lot of fans there. I like what the coaches did with the defense, too. Guys were really flying around and getting to the ball."
While he's determined to get bigger and faster this offseason, he's also eager to get out and show his talent on the camp circuit.
"I want to be around 190 pounds by the time next season starts," he said. "I'm hoping to go to a couple of camps on campus at schools like Georgia and South Carolina. I won't be traveling all over but I want to go to some of the Southeast schools."
