2017 DB encouraged by Penn State visit

Detroit (Mich.) King class of 2017 cornerback Ambry Thomas made his way to Penn State this past weekend with teammate Mikale Washington to check out the Nittany Lions.
"It was actually a nice, chill visit," Thomas said. "I can tell from their facilities that it is a laid-back type of place. The coaches showed me love. They said they are very close to offering me and want me to come down for their camp during the summer."

Thomas does plan to return to State College for Penn State's camp this summer with his teammate, Lavert Hill, who committed to the Nittany Lions in January.
"He actually told me that they were going to offer me soon," Thomas said. "He wants me to come down there with him and spend a few days down there to see how I like it."
Based on his recent visit to State College and the connection with his teammate committed, Thomas sees Penn State being a strong contender for his services if they offer.
"I believe they will be a top five, knowing that Lavert is attending there," Thomas said.
Four schools have already offered Thomas and they are Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa and Pittsburgh.
"I am about to take a trip down to Illinois at the end of April," Thomas said. "Pittsburgh, I am going there probably on spring break."
Thomas also has a connection to Pittsburgh through Detroit King alum Avonte Maddox, who is entering his second year with the Panther's program. He lists Pitt as the school he knows best right now among those that have offered.
"Right now, it's probably Pittsburgh because Avonte goes there," Thomas said. "He has been telling me a lot about the facilities and the coach. Their coach just came from Michigan State and he tells me how much they want me down there."
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Thomas was a fixture on both offense and defense for Detroit King as a sophomore, recording six interceptions on defense and scoring eight touchdowns.
