2016 WR enjoys Ga. Tech visit, talks B1G interest

The recruiting process is just getting started for Class of 2016 Woodstock (Ga.) Sequoyah wide receiver Derrion Rakestraw, but the 6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect could be on the verge of landing his first offer.
Rakestraw has had an excellent season catching the ball despite his team's run-heavy offense, notching 40 catches for 580 yards on the year. As his junior film has started to make the rounds, schools are taking notice.

"I've been getting a lot of interest lately," Rakestraw said. "I'm going to be playing in the Rising Seniors game and I'm getting a lot of letters from schools like Missouri and Georgia Tech."
Rakestraw was on campus this past week for the Yellow Jackets game against Virginia and came away impressed.
"I liked it a lot," he said. "It was a great feel. The crowd was really into it and even though it was cold their fans came out and supported them."
While on the visit Rakestraw got a chance to meet several coaches, including head coach Paul Johnson.
"I have been talking to a few of the coaches on Twitter but it was good to meet them in person," Rakestraw said. "I camped there over the summer and did well so it was good to be back and get to see how it was for a game day."
Rakestraw has already had success in a run-first offense and said that's why Georgia Tech provides an intriguing option.
"They are known not to throw the ball that much but when they do it's usually successful," he said. "I can block and I can catch so I think I would be a good fit in their offense."
While he's still waiting on his first offer, Rakestraw said he thinks it could be coming soon.
"I think most likely my first offer would be from Minnesota," he said. "They really want me to come up for a visit and I think if I make it up there and they see me in person and like my size that they will offer."
Rakestraw said the Golden Gophers coaches have been keeping in touch via social media.
"We've been talking on Twitter and all of that," he said. "It's a long trip but I'm going to try to get up there in the spring."
