"I don't know much about the program but I am going to look into and find out some facts about it and what kind of tight ends they have and what kind of offense they run," Pettigrew said. "All I do know is my coach is good friends with them and they just got in touch with me through my coach. I'm just going to look into it and see what I like about it."
The Volunteers join a list which also includes Arizona State, Florida, Louisville, LSU, Ole Miss, Miami, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Tulane, and he is keeping his options open at this time.
During the football season, Pettigrew was able to check out a few of his college options. His first trip was to LSU to see the Tigers take on Mississippi State. He returned to Baton Rouge to watch LSU host Alabama.
"It was crazy," Pettigrew said. "The fans at LSU are awesome. They kept the game alive and LSU kept the game well alive. They did great and Alabama did an awesome job also. It was an awesome atmosphere and a lifetime experience to be able to witness the game."
He also made a trip to Mississippi to see Ole Miss host the Auburn Tigers.
"It was a fun game," Pettigrew said. "I really liked how the Ole Miss coaches treated me. They treated me like family and they gave me a tour of the campus before the game. I got to see the Walk of Champions. It's nice out there and the fans are awesome too."
He hoped to make it to the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State but he was not able to attend. He does not have any future visits currently on his schedule.
In addition to attention from the schools who have offered, Texas Tech recently let him know of their interest.
Pettigrew is currently ranked No. 179 in the 2016 Rivals250, No. 8 among the nation's 2016 tight ends, and No. 13 in the Rivals.com Louisiana Initial Top 30 for 2016.
