Brandon McIlwain's meteoric rise continued with offers from Nebraska and California. The quarterback from Newtown (Pa.) Council Rock North is now close to 15 scholarship offers.
"I think Nebraska has an amazing offense," the 6-foot-1, 195-pound McIlwain said. "The coaches have been telling me about what they did with Martinez and that was pretty cool. It's a really big-time offer and there is a lot of tradition there. I'm really excited about it. I'm starting to learn more about the coaching staff. I need to do more research but talking to them was good. I got to hear about their philosophy and what they like to do with their quarterbacks.
"I know Cal has a pretty new coaching staff and they seem to be making really good strides. I used to live around there and I've seen them play before. I liked the way they play."
McIlwain had planned a trip but he wasn't able to make it.
"I was going to go to Penn State last weekend but the trip got cancelled," McIlwain said. "I don't have any other visits planned. Most of the visits I want to do will be in the summer. I'm trying to visit as many of the schools that offered me as possible."
It doesn't sound like a commitment is in the near future for McIlwain.
"I'm not really in too much of a rush," he said. "I do want to make sure I'm making the right decision. I will commit before the end of my junior year."
Michigan State was also a recent offer for McIlwain.
