Appalachian State, which is transitioning from FCS to FBS, became the first school to offer the 6-foot-2, 193-pounder over the weekend. Arcega-Whiteside said he doesn't know a ton about the program, but he's familiar with the success they've had in the past.
"I know that they've won national championships over the past few years," Arcega-Whiteside said. "And I know that they're moving to Division I next year."
The offer came out of the blue for Arecega-Whiteside, who said he hadn't been talking to the Mountaineers coaches.
"It was kind of a surprise because they never sent me mail or anything," he said. "They invited me to come watch them play this weekend, so I think I'll be heading up there."
Arcega-Whiteside continues to receive interest from schools across the Southeast, and plans to be in Columbia when South Carolina hosts Clemson later this month. He finished his junior season with 13 touchdown receptions and nearly 1,500 yards receiving.
