September 1 was the first day college coaches could reach out to class of 2015 prospects and it turned out to be a busy one from Rivals250 watch list Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland linebacker Josh Smith.
Smith fielded several calls, but the first school to extend a new offer was Ole Miss. The Rebels join fellow SEC members Tennesseeand Vanderbilt on Smith's list.
"I don't know much about Ole Miss," Smith said. "But I do know they had one of the top recruiting classes in the country the last two years."
Smith had hoped to visit Oxford this summer but didn't end up making the trip. He had already planned on getting to campus this fall and now he's sure he'll make the trip.
"I wanted to go even before they offered," he said. "I'm hoping I can get up there for a game but I know I want to visit."
Smith recently took an unofficial visit to Vanderbilt, the school where his older brother Emmanuel is currently committed, when the Commodores hosted the Rebels. He said he came away impressed.
"It was a great atmosphere for a game," Smith said. "I couldn't have asked for anything more."
Smith added that Vanderbilt continues to pursue him harder than any other school at this point.
