2015 DB lands Wisconsin offer

Detroit King class of 2015 safety Tyriq Thompson did not get to make it out to Wisconsin's camp on Monday, but he landed an offer from the Badgers that day anyway.
Thompson's teammate, three-star cornerback Jalen Embry, did camp in Madison on Monday and Gary Andersen's staff informed the Detroit King coaches then of the offer for Thompson. They had previously seen him at the Sound Mind, Sound Body Camp near Detroit earlier this month.

"My coach called and let me know they were giving me an offer," Thompson said. "They were real impressed with me when we were working out at the position drills [during Sound Mind, Sound Body] and I had a pretty good showing."
Thompson does plan to make it to Madison to see a game this fall. In the meantime, he already has a high opinion of Wisconsin.
"It is a great program," Thompson said. "They won three Big Ten Championships in a row and they are consistently in the Rose Bowl."
The offer from Wisconsin was the second of the process for Thompson, following one from Illinois this past spring.
"Illinois' offer came through about two months ago, and I was really excited about that being my first offer," Thompson said. "Then, being such a big offer from the Big Ten, I was shocked and honored."
The 6-foot, 206-pound Thompson does not have any other visits planned for the remainder of the summer as he prepares for his junior season, but he did make it out to camps at Northwestern and Michigan State earlier this month.
"Northwestern went real good," Thompson said. "Coach [Pat] Fitzgerald was impressed and he said I did a really good job. They are just waiting to see me come back on campus real soon.
"[Michigan State] Coach [Mike] Tressel was real impressed with me. They were recording our drills and he said he was going to take it to Coach [Mark] Dantonio, have all the coaches evaluate it and they'd go from there."
2013 will be Thompson's first season playing with Detroit King after transferring from Lee's Summit (Mo.) West High during the winter.
