The recruiting process started off with a bang for Jalen Christian. The 2015 athlete from Damascus (Md.) is already up to 15 offers, the most recent coming from the Tennessee Volunteers.
"I was at a dentist appointment before practice and my coach told I needed to get there soon," said the 5-foot-10, 160-pound Christian. "When I got there I called Coach Thigpen and he offered me. Coach Thigpen didn't specify what position they want me for.
"I don't know much about them," he said. "All I really know is that they are in the SEC. My mom's friend was a trainer at Tennessee and he told me some things about the school. I need to do more research."
Clearly, Christian is a highly valued prospect and certain schools are making that known.
"I'm getting a lot of interest from a lot of SEC schools," Christian said. "I'm going to visit Notre Dame and Michigan on August 2 and 3. I hear all about the tradition at those two schools and I see it on TV but I want to see it for myself when I'm on campus. I have a pretty good relationship with Coach Booker from Notre Dame and I've talked with Coach Mallory from Michigan."
Christian is also going to try to see some schools during the season.
"I'm going to try to get to some close games like Virginia and definitely Virginia Tech," he said. "I want to go to the Virginia game against Oregon. I want to see how they play against a team like that."
With offers piling up, Christian is taking everything in stride.
"My coach tells me when an offer comes in but he doesn't tell me what schools could be close, I guess because he doesn't want to ruin the surprise," said Christian. "I think a lot of these offers are just popping up. I think there could be a few schools that might offer soon, especially if I visit, but I don't want to ruin anything."
