2014 CB closing in on offers

2014 cornerback Tyree Spearman of Erie (Pa.) McDowell is garnering plenty of early interest. In fact, one school is close to offering the 5-foot-9, 175- pounder while a number of other schools will be keeping a close eye on him this fall.
"I've had a lot of schools come in," he said. "Coach always calls me into his office for college coaches to see me."

To help his recruiting process along, Spearman attended a few summer camps.
"I went to West Virginia, Buffalo and Notre Dame," said Spearman. "Notre Dame and West Virginia liked me a lot. Notre Dame told me to keep in contact with them."
So, has anyone offered?
"Youngstown State actually tried to offer me, but because of my grades they couldn't," he said. "They mentioned they'd be back when they could."
Meanwhile, Spearman confirmed he plans to visit a few schools this fall for games, including Illinois and Pittsburgh. While it is early in his process, Spearman discussed any possible favorites.
"My favorite college is Iowa, but I don't think I'd want to go there for football," he said. "I just like the college."
As a sophomore last season, Spearman posted a pair of interceptions including a pick six in the playoffs as he earned all-conference honors.
"I think I gave up only 30 to 60-yards passing on the whole season last year," he said. "I barely got passes thrown my way. I just think that I'm a lockdown corner. I make quarterbacks look the other way."
A star wrestler too, Spearman is ranked fifth in the state in his weight class, but noted he prefers to pursue football at the next level.
