2013 safety shocked by offer No. 1

Olney (Md.) Good Counsel 2013 safety Calvin Jones was stunned by his first offer approximately a month ago. The 6-foot-0, 185-pounder still claims one scholarship, but other schools are moving in.
"Virginia is the only offer so far," he said. "I got it about a month ago. I was kind of surprised. My coach told me at first and I didn't know what to say. I was kind of in shock."

So, does Jones know much about the Cavaliers?
"Not really," he said. "Ever since I got the offer I've been looking into it and I've heard it's a really good school. We're in the process of setting up a date for me to go on a visit there."
Meanwhile, other schools are taking a look.
"Basically I'm getting interest from Pittsburgh, Boston College and Duke," he said. "I just get mail from them and stuff like that. I haven't really talked to them with the exception of Boston College who said I have good size for a safety."
With interest just beginning to pick up, does Jones like anybody?
"I'm still looking to see what comes in," he said. "I kind of like Georgia Tech. I've liked them since I was a kid. I like Virginia too.
"I don't know what it is about Georgia Tech. I have family down there in Atlanta and I've visited there. I'm interest in Virginia since my sister always tells me they are a good school."
On the field, Jones in his first year starting has helped Good Counsel to a perfect season to date, as the championship game is this weekend against Gonzaga.
"The season is going well so far," he said. "I feel like I've done well, but there is always room to get better. I'm working to get better.
"I like to hit, so that's what I'm known for right now. I'm working on a lot of things, especially my technique. I'm trying to get better with my reads and hopefully I'll be a little bit bigger next year and I'll be faster too."
