2013 RB pulls first verbal

While most 2012 recruits are still waiting for offers, a few select 2013 prospects are already pulling them in. One of those is an emerging 2013 tailback that landed his first scholarship last week.
"I got my first offer last week from Virginia," Richmond (Va.) Hermitage sophomore tailback Derrick Green said. "It was only a verbal, but I feel real good about it.

"I think just getting my first one pushes me more to show out and give my all my junior and senior years. When my coach told me, I was very excited. I couldn't wait to speak to the coaches and tell my parents, it was just an overall great feeling."
What does Green know about the 'Hoos?
"For one, they have a great academic program and that's what I look for the most in a school, somewhere I can get my education first," he said. "As far as the football program, they have a very good program and a great coaching staff. I like how they use their running back."
Green has no immediate plans to visit Virginia, but mentioned a desire to trip to a number of schools for camps this summer.
"I plan to camp at Virginia Tech, Virginia, Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon and Penn State," he said. "Those are all the ones I'm sure of so far."
With his first verbal in, does Green like anybody?
"No, not really," he stated. "I'm just keeping all my options open."
In limited time as a sophomore, Green ran for over 700-yards and 10 touchdowns.
