Recruiting prospects in the 2013 class will not heat up until the fall but teams are already handing out scholarships and showing interest in players. One of the top 2013 recruits in the country is Piscataway, N.J. athlete Nadir Barnwell.
The two-way athlete has already pulled in offers from Florida, Rutgers and Georgia. Many more teams are likely to start showing interest in the 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete who helped lead his team to a state title.
What does Barnwell look for in a school?
"I look at how the coaches run their programs and how they treat their players. Whether they care about their players or not," said Barnwell. "Also how the facilities are, how they run practice and the intensity of the practices. Academics are important but I haven't had a chance to look at many schools academics and I do not know what I want to major in."
Barnwell has only checked out Rutgers to this point.
"I go to Rutgers a lot because it's down the road. I like how they run things and I have gone to a lot of their games and really like what I have seen."
Barnwell plays quarterback and defensive back for his high school team and says schools are looking at him to possibly play both receiver and cornerback at the next level.
Any goals for the upcoming season?
"We've been practicing for almost a month now. We have been doing 7 v 7's and are getting closer and closer to football season," said Barnwell. "Our goal is just not to get comfortable or complacent. We want to play good football like last year, and we want to defend our championship."
