2012 Jersey athlete gaining interest

The senior class at Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic has several college level prospects, so for junior athlete Charles Wingate, he has had to earn his playing time and respect. Wingate has done exactly that this season and as a result there are already several schools interested in his abilities.
"Recruiting is going pretty well," said Wingate, who is 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds. "I'm getting interest from Rutgers, Northwestern, Akron, Syracuse, Nebraska, Virginia, Miami, Penn Staate, Michigan, Boston College and Temple."

With most of Bergen Catholic's games being on a Saturday this year, his ability to visit schools has been limited.
"I've been invited to a couple of games, but wasn't able to attend," said Wingate. "I'd like to visit Virginia, Miami, Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska, Akron and Northwestern."
During the summer, Wingate attended the Boston College Camp with the rest of his team.
"I think I did pretty well," said Wingate. "I made it to the showcase, which brings together all of the elite players, and I had a chance to show everyone what I can do."
Wingate mentioned a few things he will be looking for in a school and program when it comes time to make a final decision.
"I want to go to a school that is up and coming in the nation, so I can contribute to the success," said Wingate. "In a college I'm looking for a great academic atmosphere and a great business field."
This season for the Crusaders, Wingate is lining up at wide receiver, cornerback and returning both kickoffs and punts. Thru the first eight games, he has totaled seven receptions for 125 yards and one touchdown, while chipping in with 12 tackles on defense.
"The season is going great, both personally and for the team," said Wingate. "We're looking forward to making a statement and winning a state championship."
