2011 New York QB hoping for interest

While Ryan Smith has not received the kind of interest some other junior prospects at his position have, there is still plenty of time between now and the time when he will be expected to make a college decision.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback from Guilderland, New York estimates that he runs the 40-yard dash in about 4.8 seconds, so he is more of a pocket passer but has the ability to tuck it, run and pick up some yards if things break down.

His high school squad recently switched to a spread offense and so far the system has been a good fit for him. Through two games Guilderland Center is 1-1, and Smith has passed for 440 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 90 yards and three more scores.
Earlier in the year Smith attended the FBU event in New Jersey and said he felt good about his performance. Nonetheless, he's still waiting for attention from some of the programs he has watched for many years.
"I would say I'm definitely the kind of guy that can drop back and pick you apart," he said. "I also have the ability to scramble and make plays with my legs. I always want to work on my footwork, because that's something nobody can perfect."
Smith said he doesn't have any fall plans outside of school and football yet, so only time will tell what the future holds.
"Hopefully as soon as they (colleges) start calling I'll be out (visiting).
"I grew up in Dallas, Texas. I lived in Connecticut for a little while, from fifth grade to eighth grade. Then I moved up here, so I've been interested in schools like UConn, Boston College, the North Carolina schools like North Carolina and Wake Forest."
