2009 back gets first offer

If there was any doubt that Oxnard (Calif.) Santa Clara junior-to-be running back Cierre Wood is one of the better players in California for the class of 2009, it was officially erased on Wednesday.
That's when the 6-foot, 176-pounder picked up his first official scholarship offer.

"He was verbally offered a scholarship by San Diego State," Santa Clara athletic director Mike Schabert said. "He's really excited to have officially have his first offer in the books."
Wood put up some impressive numbers as a sophomore.
He rushed for 1,407 yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 12 yards a carry. Wood also had 595 yards receiving and seven touchdown catches.
At the recent Los Angeles NIKE Camp, Wood was one of the top underclassmen at the end.
