If Division I schools didn't know about 2008 Mesquite, Texas quarterback Kelly Page, his season stats will definitely thrust him into the spotlight.
So far on the year, the talented signal caller has been scoring by air and ground. He's thrown for 680 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 217 more yards with four scores. The team is 3-1 on the year and Page says that he's just looking for the best opportunity during the recruiting process.
"Right now, I'm just trying to get that first offer from anywhere," Page said. "It's just a lot of mail, media guides, and letters right now. Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma send a lot, but I get something from almost everybody."
Page says his brother goes to Texas A&M and he's gone to a couple of the games for unofficial visits. While Page says he's open, he says he's not planning on stretching the recruiting process for unnecessary reasons.
"I mean, if the right schools comes along and they treat me right at the beginning, I don't see a problem making an early decision," Page said. "The opportunity has to come first. I'm in no rush."
Page says his goals between last year and this year are mainly to "get better."
"I want to have a great season with the seniors that we have," he said. "We've been with a lot of these guys since last year. They're just great guys and we'd like to finish up with a state championship."
Page was the district newcomer of the year after his sophomore season. That year he threw for 1,287 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 767 yards and 10 touchdowns.
