2008 Texas LB Mason gets early looks

There certainly isn't going to be a size or an athleticism shortage with outside linebacker prospect Gary Mason, the junior from Waxahachie, Texas who's drawing a lot of interest from a long list of schools.
Mason, who is the cousin of NBA star Desmond Mason, certainly isn't lacking any playmaking ability on the football field. While the 6-foot-5, 211-pounder admits that he gets a lot of his ability from his cousin, he also isn't one to brag about his abilities.

"I'm just an average guy who tries to do what my coach tells me to do," Mason said. "If had to say what I'm good out, I'd say I'm good at containment. That's why I prefer linebacker."
No scholarship offers have arrive yet for the talented linebacker, but Mason says that the mail has been steadily growing with new schools by the day.
"I'm getting some stuff from Oklahoma State, Iowa, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, and Oklahoma has sent a few letters," Mason said. "There are a couple of others that I can't remember.
"I watch Texas, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State quite a bit. I don't really have a favorite though. I'm a fan of a lot of schools."
Mason was all set to have a big sophomore season, but tore his ACL before the season even started. Now that he's back on the field and having a big year for his team, it feels great.
"It was a relief that I wasn't just sitting on the sideline again," Mason said. "It was awful not being out there – it was killing me."
Mason says that he's going to wait out the recruiting process and not make an early decision.
