2008 Texas LB already drawing looks

HOUSTON - It may be early, but when you have the talent that sophomore linebacker Greg Burks does for Houston (Texas) Spring Woods, you're going to start attracting early looks.
Coach Dwayne Eggerman has coached the likes of some big linebackers like NFL rookie star Demorrio Williams when he was at Beckville (Texas) High School. He thinks that the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Burks may end up being even better.

"When Demorrio was coming out of high school, he was small but you could tell he was going to get bigger," Eggerman said. "Burks is already big for a sophomore and he could get even bigger himself. At this age, Greg is a better linebacker than Demorrio was."
Burks also has the advantage over many other high school players because he's been on the varsity squad at Spring Woods since his sophomore year.
"I think it's good that I'm out there with the older guys," Burks said. "The older guys help me if I line up wrong or something like that. They're good about helping me correct errors because I've still got a ways to go."
Regardless of projections, Burks is already a 4.5-second 40-yard dash runner and will undoubtedly continue to get looks as the next few years move along.
Burks says it hasn't been too early to start thinking about college.
"I guess when it comes I'd like to hear from Miami and Nebraska," Burks said. "But, that's going to be a while from now."
The star sophomore Burks just wants to become a better player.
"I think I'll be a better linebacker because you always get better with technique and stuff," Burks said. "I'll be concentrating to get better every game and every time I step on the field."
