Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway linebacker Shayne Hale is an early Rivals100 2008 member. The 6-foot-3, 218-pounder has approximately a dozen offers at this time, but does he have any favorites?
"Shayne is up to about 12 offers right now," Gateway head coach Terry Smith said. "Michigan, Ohio State, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Pittsburgh are some of the offers I remember. I can't remember them all right now.
"He doesn't have offers from Florida, Florida State, USC, Miami or Clemson yet, but they are sending lots of letters."
Who is the junior prospect leaning to?
"Ohio State is his favorite," he said. "That's the childhood team he always dreamed of playing for and grew up a big fan of them.
"He went to visit there just before the holidays in December. I know he had a really great visit. He likes the way they run the defense and I know they showed him exactly where he fits in with them."
Though there's definitely a favorite, Smith believes his star linebacker will wait it out during the recruiting process.
Hale registered an eye-popping 105 tackles, 13 for loss and five sacks as a junior on his way to first team AAAA all-state honors.
"He's a special player that is very explosive, physical, strong and athletic," he said. "He's got good size and can run. When he gets his hands on you it's over and he'll put you on your back. To be honest, I've never seen him land on his back. He's the type of player that can cover sideline to sideline too and the thing is he's almost skinny. He could easily put on 30 more pounds."
What about Hale as a person?
"He's a great kid," he said. "He's a man of few words and is a very reserved and shy kid. He however is a hardworker and comes to practice everyday like it's a business."
