2008 LB lands offer No. 2

Compton (Calif.) Dominguez linebacker Maurice Simmons earned all-state underclass honors a year ago and looks like a lock for the same honor following his junior season. The talented athlete also picked up his second offer of the year.
Simmons, 6-2, 200 pounds is having a big season and is already one of the state's top defensive players.

"My season is going great right now," Simmons said. "We're 6-1 and I'm averaging about 15 tackles a game. We're looking good for the playoffs and hopefully we'll have another strong run. Unfortunately my brother Marquis dislocated his elbow and will be out for the regular season. Before he got hurt he was leading the league in tackles and we were shutting down everyone's running game as a tandem.
"Marquis is only a sophomore but he's already making a name for himself and getting some early interest from colleges. I told him to not rush himself back but just to get ready for the NIKE Camps next year but he is already out of his cast and rehabbing."
On the recruiting front, Simmons picked up an early from Mississippi back in September and landed offer No. 2 this week.
"Nebraska just offered me," Simmons said. "I was really excited about that and now I'm just curious to see who else might offer. USC is still my top school but I also like Notre Dame, Oregon, Florida, Florida State and of course Ole Miss and Nebraska since they have offered me already."
