2008 DB likes Irish, Tide, Cards

Owensboro (Ky.) Catholic safety Brian Winklepeck, a Class of 2008 prospect, has been getting attention by way of mail from a number of programs. The 2005 Kentucky state interceptions leader also has a trio of schools that have piqued his interest.
"I've gotten letters from Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Louisville, Vanderbilt, UConn, Alabama and Kentucky, but I don't have any offers yet," the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder said. "I've been to a camp at Notre Dame and I really like the environment up there. I like the coaching staff and I like the way Charlie Weis does things."

An in-state power and a Southeastern Conference program with a new head coach also have Winklepeck's attention.
"Louisville, I am interested in and I'd like to see what Nick Saban does at Alabama."
Winklepeck hails from the same town that produced former Clemson cornerback Justin Miller, who was a high NFL draft pick. Continuing the budding tradition of talented Owensboro wide receivers, Winklepeck led the state of Kentucky with 14 interceptions his sophomore year.
"I got a real good eye for the ball," he said. "I know how to position myself on the field. I keep everything in front of me. I used to play quarterback my freshman year and I think that helps me a little bit because I have a little bit of awareness in what the quarterback may be looking for."
Winklepeck was slowed this season by a shoulder injury, but is 100 percent now. He has yet to plan his spring, which should include several junior days and combines.
"I'm still planning for that," he said. "I'm looking into that right now."
