2007 CB impressed with Irish junior day

Junior cornerback Lamont Smith out of Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic took a junior day to South Bend last weekend. The 5-foot-9, 170-pounder with 4.5-second speed was impressed with his trip. What specifically did he like about Notre Dame?
"It was a very nice visit and I liked the campus. The football field, academics and facilities were all really nice," he said. "I got there and toured the campus and then met with my position coach and took in a basketball game. Coach Weis was very nice and I really liked his sense of humor. He's a funny guy that can be serious at the same time which is cool."

Smith is very interested in the Irish after his visit.
"I'm looking at Notre Dame along with Pittsburgh, Penn State, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Ohio State primarily," he said. "I like Pittsburgh and Penn State because they are close to home. Pittsburgh seems really cool while I really like Penn State's coaches and the fact that they are a good team.
"I like Boston College because they are a good team and have been recruiting me the longest since my sophomore year. They were the first team to show major interest in me. Virginia Tech has written me a bunch of handwritten letters already and they have shown a lot of interest. Finally, Ohio State produces a lot of NFL corners which is good."
Smith is hoping to take junior days to Boston College and Virginia Tech in the future. He also is intending to go to the Nike Camp at Penn State.
Smith was named second team all-state and first team all-conference as he ran for 2,100 yards and 25 touchdowns during his junior year.
