Class of 2016 three-star defensive end Charles Callender currently holds nine offers, but a school he'd really like to hear from is Northwestern.
"It's in Chicago and I love that city," the 6-foot-2, 214-pound Callender said. "And they have great academics, so they'd be my top school.
Callender said he's hoping to get to Northwestern during his bye week. He's never been to the Chicago area and looks forward to the trip. Also while up north, he said he'll try to visit one the schools that has offered him, Wisconsin.
Of his offers, Wisconsin currently sits at the top.
"I saw they were in the Forbes list for top 25 schools in academics," he said. "Academics is important to me, so that's what makes them high. And one of my teammates (Dominic Sheppard) just committed there."
Another school that figures to be a mainstay in his recruiting process is USF because Callender's uncle, the late Lee Roy Selmon, was once assistant athletic director there following his NFL Hall of Fame career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"He was a big part of the program and that's what interests me about them," Callender said.
Callender finished last season with 50 tackles, 8 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.
