Young initiate's contact with LSU, then gets dream offer

Byron Young was not hearing too much from LSU despite living in a neighboring state and holding offers from the likes of Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee.

He took matters into his own hands and that led to an offer Tuesday afternoon.

"I sent a message to coach [Ronnie] Wheat (defensive analyst) on Twitter to let him know who I was and that I was interested in them about a week and a half ago," said Young. "They weren't aware of me until then, but after that message, they showed interest and coach [Dennis] Johnson (defensive line) came by the school and offered me today."

The 6-foot-5, 265 pound defensive end out of Laurel (Miss.) West Jones was happy when he coach gave him the news of the offer. It is an offer he has dreamed about for the last six or seven years and the Tigers are the school on top of his list.

"LSU is my dream school. I started watching and liking them when I was about 10 years old. I remember watching them play Alabama twice in one season and it is a school I just fell in love with.

"It is something about the way they play and the atmosphere there. I have not visited yet, but everyone I talk to that has tells me how crazy it is. They are sitting well at No. 1 now just because how much I loved them since I was little."

Young is now hoping to visit Baton Rouge soon and he said he will be looking to see how he likes the campus and how he relates to the students there.
