Southeast Region: Recruiting Four-Cast

Commitments are capable of taking people off guard. They sometimes come out of nowhere to schools that few expect. That’s not the case on every occasion, however. Below are briefings and predictions pertaining to four of the Southeast’s most notable uncommitted prospects.

The Situation: Terrell has seen his recruiting stock soar since the calendar turned to 2016, with offers coming in from pretty much every major program in the country. With plenty of new options, Terrell has taken several visits, with Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina being the most recent. He appears very close to making a decision and one could come before the end of the month

The Frontrunner: Clemson

The Tigers have quietly worked their way into the pole position for Terrell and having his close friend LeAnthony Williams already in the fold is a big plus as well. Terrell has taken multiple trips to Clemson over the past few months, including most recently this past weekend.

The Other Option: Florida

Terrell has referred the Gators as his "dream school" and nearly committed while on campus earlier this fall. The school's tradition of producing NFL-caliber defensive backs as well as his relationship with assistant coach Torian Gray are also major factors.

But Don’t Count Out: Georgia

The Bulldogs were late to the party compared to some of the other programs on Terrell's list but have attempted to make up for lost time while chasing Terrell over the summer. His close friend and high school teammate Jaden Hunter is one of Georgia's best recruiters and is working hard to reel in Terrell.

The Situation: Britt intended to announce his commitment on Aug. 6, but canceled that decision date as it drew closer. Now, it seems as though he’ll wait an undetermined amount of time to make his choice.

The Frontrunner: Auburn

The Auburn staff is the group of coaches with whom Britt feels most comfortable. The relationship is an old one and he’s visited the campus often. He has friends currently committed to the Tigers as well. Add in the fact that top Alabama-based prospects rarely escape the state, and there is every reason to view Auburn as the (slight) favorite to land Britt.

The Other option: Stanford

The allure of Stanford doesn’t need to be restated. Britt received his official Stanford offer in the mail recently and is intrigued by the opportunity to say the least. If Britt visits Stanford, the Cardinal will have every shot to take over the top spot in his recruitment. Distance from home is one of the only things working against Stanford in this situation.

But don’t count out: Georgia

The Bulldogs were once seen as the leader to land Britt and can be as involved in his recruitment as they want to be. UGA rounds out the three-team cluster of programs with legit shots to land Britt’s commitment, whenever it comes. Britt has visited Georgia’s campus and has built a solid relationship with the coaching staff. If Georgia manages to steal Britt away from Auburn and Stanford, it wouldn’t be a shocking upset.

The situation: Grimes’s recruitment will come to a close on Aug. 24, when the five-star wide receiver announces his commitment at his high school. It seems likely that he already knows which school he’ll attend, but he’ll keep that information secret until decision day. Grimes will choose between finalists Ohio State, Florida, Florida State and Miami.

The Frontrunner: Ohio State

The Buckeyes have been Grimes’ longtime leader and that hasn’t changed. He’s most comfortable with Ohio State’s coaching staff and visited the campus this offseason. It seems unlikely that his feelings about the program have changed in the past few months.

The other option: Florida

Florida is hanging in Grimes’ recruitment by a thread. His high school quarterback, Jake Allen, is committed to the Gators and sells Gainesville to Grimes at every turn. The five-star wide receiver has been on UF’s campus and seemed to legitimately enjoy his time there. That said, Florida remains a heavy underdog.

But don’t count out: Um … the apocalypse?

It’s probably safe to count every school not named Ohio State or Florida out of this one. Florida State may be the only other school with a small sliver of a chance to land Grimes, but the Buckeyes are the extremely heavy favorite to be the program celebrating following the receiver’s announcement.

The Situation: Wills has been a five-star for more than a year and schools rolled out the red carpet for him at several different campus visits over the summer. Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Kentucky have hosted Wills and he's spoken highly of each visit along the way. He's also rumored to be close to making a decision and an announcement may come sometime in the next month.

The Frontrunner: Alabama

After visiting the Tide last month, rumors were quickly floated that he had actually committed on the trip. However, a few weeks have gone by with Wills remaining mostly silent and Tide fans getting a little anxious. Regardless of speculation, Wills left Tuscaloosa with the Tide as his leader and they still sit in a great place to land his commitment.

The Other Option: Kentucky

The Wildcats were long thought the favorites to land Wills, mainly because of his countless visits to campus and his relationships with several current members of the Wildcats teams. But as he has continued to explore his options, Kentucky has taken a back seat to the Tide. Things could change with a successful season on the field, especially if Wills former teammate and close friend Landon Young earns early playing time as a freshman.

Bud Don't Count Out: Notre Dame

The Irish were once the dream offer Wills coveted and he has visited South Bend several times over the past two years. His family has also been enamored with Notre Dame's academic reputation and the program's storied history. The school has had success in Kentucky in recent years, but can they make up enough ground to steal Wills away? That remains a big question headed into the fall.
