The Southeast’s reputation for producing skill position players is well established. Whether the talking point is true or the work of an old cliché, much of the chatter about prospects in the region often centers on speed and athleticism, but SEC schools are doing fine when it comes to finding linemen as well.

Members of the conference have commitments from a number of highly rated offensive linemen, making the future of the league’s trenches look just fine. Below are the top five offensive linemen currently committed to SEC schools.

Ashley missed much of the offseason with an injury and, because of an offseason transfer, he will play his senior season at a small high school. He’s long since established himself as one of the nation’s premier offensive linemen. Ashley’s frame is striking, as he boasts the body of a college junior, and his longstanding commitment to Auburn helps him serve as a cornerstone to what the Tigers are hoping will be loaded class. Now healthy, many are interested to see how Ashley looks playing his senior season at a new school.

Deculus only recently committed to LSU, but what the Tigers are getting in the massive tackle has long since been apparent. Deculus’ calling card is his raw power, which he displayed during a solid performance at the Rivals Camp Series stop in Dallas. What makes Deculus a special prospect is that he’s maintained light feet as he’s continued to add size. He may be known for his strength and his build, but he moves relatively well for a prospect of his stature.

The only true guard to make this list, Johnson provides a rare anchoring presence from an interior position. Johnson looks better in games than he does in camp settings, as he’s more impressive when he’s allowed to strap on pads and use raw power to pancake defensive linemen. He has great size and is maybe a bit more effective run blocking than he is in in pass protection. Johnson is nowhere near finished developing as a player, which is possibly the most encouraging thing about him.

Leatherwood may be the most aggressive offensive lineman in America. He finished blocks with as much gusto as anyone and his massive legs provide him with an incredible base. Leatherwood has some developing to do technique-wise, but his raw tools allow him to dominate high school defensive linemen with ease. The fact that Leatherwood has yet to approach his full potential as a player is encouraging for Crimson Tide fans because he’s a certified force as things stand now. He may have the highest ceiling of any player on this list.

A one-time Miami commit, Telfort’s services are now pledged to Florida. The 325-pounder doesn’t have as much bad weight as you’d assume when dealing with a prospect of his size. He does, however, have incredibly long arms and a massive frame that allows him to carry the weight well. Telfort doesn’t rely on sheer size to be effective, either. He’s well-coached in using his length, as he extends and moves his feet remarkable well for somebody carrying a lot of weight. USC has recently become involved in his recruitment, and Telfort plans to visit despite his status as a UF commit.
