2019 LSU DB commit Derek Stingley thrilled to be a Tiger

Derek Stingley ()

The Latest: As the grandson of former NFL wide receiver Daryl Stingley and the son of former professional baseball and football player Derek Stingley, Sr., it's not a surprise that Derek Stingley, Jr. is a standout athlete. What did come as a surprise earlier in the summer is the fact that he nabbed an offer from LSU and quickly jumped on board as a commit. Stingley's excellent performances in back-to-back camps convinced the Tigers coaches that despite just being a rising sophomore, Stingley, Jr. has the skills to be one of the nation's best. Rivals.com caught up with him to talk about his commitment to the Tigers.

In His Words: "I did well at a satellite camp the week before and they said they wanted to see more of me on campus so I came to the camp and go the offer and I knew it was the place for me. Growing up in Baton Rouge that was the dream offer to play at LSU. Once I go the offer I didn’t want to wait any longer. Since I've committed more people know me now and more people that play against call me out. They’re out to get me now. But I still play the same and still do the same things. I like the competition. I’m used to it because I’ve always been the best. People always want to talk about how they’re going to take me out but it never works out well for them. Patrick Peterson is a guy I really look up to. I think I can do it all just like him and I hope to have a similar career at LSU."

Rivals Reaction: Stingley seemed to come out of nowhere when he earned an offer last month but with his family history of athletic ability combined with his recent showings at camp events, he's already proven enough to the Tigers coaches to be offer worthy. Right now, Stingley looks like he could be one of the top players in his class at his position.
